The winter holidays are one of my favorite times of the year. I have always felt that there is something magical about the season. It is always a busy time of year for musicians because of concerts and parties but I enjoy the festivities.
I love Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years. They are full of traditions and I love the music. What better way to start off the season than to remember what we are thankful for. My family has a tradition of making a thankful chain on Thanksgiving that we wrap around our Christmas tree. I have always loved Christmas. I was the kid that would wake up at 4 a.m. Christmas morning and I would have to wait in bed until my younger sister woke up in order to open presents. Who am I kidding? I still have a hard time sleeping on Christmas morning. New Years is another fun time in my family. I am Japanese American and in my family that means a huge feast on New Years day. We have sushi, pot stickers, fish, and many other foods that symbolize health and good luck for the new year.
Music is also an integral part of my holiday traditions. My husband and I practice our Christmas music and invite others to play music with us at our Christmas party. We go to concerts and listen to Christmas music. We even sing Christmas songs so that our girls will learn the Christmas carols and sing with us at our Christmas party.
I invite anyone to write a special Christmas tradition they have. I would love to hear them!
