“I’ve got rhythm. I’ve got music. I’ve got my girl. Who could ask for anything more?” – music by George Gershwin. Rhythm is a necessary part of music. This summer I purchased some rhythm sticks that I am using to teach rhythm to my elementary band class and flute students. Music is often a conversation between different people. One instrument will play a phrase and another will repeat the same phrase or respond with their own phrase. In order to do that it is imperative that the players feel the rhythm.
